We have a *lot* in mind for Filttr and how the Twitter experience can be improved. Bringing in all the different interfaces (Web/app/IM/mobile) was one of those. We've seen some very rapid development in the months we were in closed beta, and hope to continue at the same pace now that we've caught the public eye.
