Magento is best tool to build complete eCommerce website. Magento has a lot of functional related to eCommerce use, lot of store owners even developers doesn't aware of this futures. but those are really useful. If you don't know structure then you cant develop a website using Magento, if platform is big then we have to be clever and have to learn the things instead saying its tough to solve the problem in Magento.

I am myself a Magento developer, and i love to work on it, even i also feel complex to code, but i am concentrating on the issue, not on the post.

Yes magento admin is too difficult for the layman
you will have to carefully go through the magento user manuals to progress.
Also out of the box , there are some hard to fix bugs
You can try out opencart which is a better software when customizations are needed

we have also developed a social shopping mall for open cart .
This is quite useful for a multi seller system

Good Luck

I agree 100%, Magento is still not very user friendly, try out open solutions Quick Cart, no database required...

Magento is good but don’t use for production without magento expert because ratio of errors is very high.
