I'm not sure I agree with your point about the inclusion of avatars. I like to meet new people and the avatar gives me a visual clue that I have met this person before, or haven't. I remember an avatar much better than I remember a person's name.

I'm curious to hear what you find "annoying" about it's implementation. I find of lot of Facebook's design to be annoying, but their avatar implementation is pretty standard. Do they bother you on Twitter too?

I agree with you completely on all the other points though.

Well, yes and no. As I mention in my post, my single biggest issue wasn't simply that they redesigned the layout. Instead, they removed features I happened to find very useful, under the guise of making things simpler. I've since found it a less enjoyable experience where I miss far more because the information density is lower on any given page, and filtering content has taken a hit.

They just announced they'd be releasing search capabilities, so maybe that will change some, but I'm never in favor of removing features people love and have come to depend on!

Ha, isn't this true for any upgrade/overhaul. We always like it the way it used to be. I would much rather drive a vehicle from the 50's or 60's if it ran as reliable as a new vehicle. The new cars is all plastic, thinner metal, 'crumple zones' that end up "totaling" a car so your insurance can replace the whole thing. I get what you are saying and I too hated many of the changes as well. But I must admit with the newer vehicles, better MPG, better speeds, BETTER safety makes me want to drive one. Maybe FB's attempt was to make it more streamlined, ergonomic, etc. Maybe we are stuck with the likes of the 'olden' days and simply don't want change. And maybe, just maybe, these changes happen and we grow to love them, not because we necessarily like them but because we learn to use them and they become second nature. Isn't that why we like things, because of the comfort it brings. Change provides and uncomfortable opportunity to grow and adjust. Maybe someday we will all love the FB changes.

Just tell her "you can't do that anymore, honey. Facebook hates us." No matter the feature, it's likely true.

The highlights section and integrated adds are indeed terrible. So far I have found no use for them at all because it appears totally random and never is about any of my close friends or family. Also, my wife isn't a computer person, so whenever they change parts of the UI, she is totally confused on how to use it again. I'll probably be getting drilled on a bunch of "How do I...?"s and "Where is...?"s the next few weeks. Worst part is, I probably won't know the answer.
